Water or moisture damage is common in households. There are two
types of water damage:
1. Damage from a Flood or drain backup
If you recently experienced a flood, most likely you contacted
your Insurance Company and they immediately dispatched a water damage
restoration service to evaulate and remove moisture from your home.
If you had enough water in your basement, there is a good chance
the Fire Department stopped by to pump out as much water as they
could. Water Damage is a tough experience for any homeowner. Removing
Moisture from the damaged area is the primary concern and for good
reason. If left for over 24 hours, all of that dust and moisture
combine and begin to establish themselves in your home. If you've
ever been in a flood or water damaged area, you know what I'm talking
about, that musty smell.
If you've experienced a flood or water damage, be sure to call
your Insurance Company if it's significant enough to require professional
attention. How do you know? If you can't clean it up with a shop
vacum or a good mop, you may have a bigger problem than you can
handle. It's better to leave it to the professionals. They know
how to fix the problem immediately, reducing the long term damage
water can have on your home. In any event, the sooner you take action,
the less this experience will cost you in the long run.
2. Ongoing Moisture Problems that occur within your home.
The majority of this type of damage can be prevented by controlling
moisture in the environment. If excess moisture is allowed to stay
in the environment, you could potentially create a problem that
is much worse than the original inconvenience of controlling or
correcting moisture problems to begin with. Mold & Mildew can
contaminate your house and potentially cause health problems.
You need to focus on the primary cause of your moisture problem.
Why is this area damp or moist and what is causing it? In basements,
check your downspouts outside your home. Do they drain 10 feet or
more away from your foundation? If not, moisture can easily penetrate
your concrete foundation and seep into your home. Do you have a
shower or bathroom that isn't ventilated? You should consider installing
a bathroom fan to elminate excess moisture from the environment.
Our products were designed to assist you in removing moisture from
the environment easily and in-expensively. We are a great option
to full blown de-humidifiers and cost much less. If you've experienced
flood damage and the professionals have left along with their equipment,
be sure to check the damaged area a few months after your "accident"
to make sure you still don't have a musty or mildew smell in the
area. If you still notice an "odd" odor, call the professionals
who serviced you to come and re-review the situation. If the problem
is un-related, begin to focus on why the area is damp to begin with.
Our product may be a good choice at this point.
We feature an inexpensive, Non-Electric Dehumidifier that is a
great alternative to purchasing a full blown electric dehumidifier.
The product works with little maintenance and help controls excess
or seasonal moisture. Just check the bucket once a month (More often
if there is significant moisture problems).
A few dollars today in prevention will make your house more enjoyable,
and visiting your basement more enjoyable the next time you go down
there.
